Conservation Officers Assist with Flood Related Activities
Thursday, May 19, 2011
JACKSON – Due to the historic flooding of the Mississippi River, Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) conservation officers have been closely coordinating with the National Guard, fire departments, and other law enforcement agencies. Through the incident command system, officers have been stationed in Yazoo City to assist in search and rescue, protection of private property, evacuations, and other public needs.
“We have officers in place along the Delta counties from Tunica to Natchez to assist the public, to patrol flood waters, and handle calls related to wildlife issues,” stated MDWFP Chief of Law Enforcement Col. Steve Adcock. “Conservation officers have trained in preparation of natural disasters and are ready to assist as necessary. People within these areas are urged to take precautions now to prevent possible rescue missions later that can put these officers at further risk.”
